WYA Africa hosted an event to mark the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 15th November 2008 at Ufungamano House in Nairobi. This was indeed a great opportunity for WYA members to meet WYA president Mary Halpine who started her Africa tour in Nairobi. The event featured captivating speeches from International lawyer Luis Franceschi(Click here to view Luis' speech) and WYA President Mary Halpine. Participants were treated to an exhibition by WYAA interns sampling WYA pictures and members’ essays and poems that decry how various human rights have been violated in our communities and how others have been upheld. Topics of discussion revolved around the history, content and relevance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights document. Participants had an ideal opportunity to share their views in a discussion on how they as youth can help uphold human rights in their community with the basis that every human being possesses an intrinsic dignity that grants them their human rights.
WYA members who had finished Track A training had an accreditation session with WYA president, Mary Halpine and Regional Director of Operations for WYA Africa, Irene Mwangi.
