Africa | From the Directors' Desk
END OF 2007, BEGINING OF 2008 - WORD FROM OUTGOING DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
It has always been fulfilling to work with young people from all over the world most especially working with our own young people here in Africa. Although I barely get to meet all of them face to face there is a connection with each one of them that I have exchanged emails or had a telephone conversation with. Service to others is what I value most. My service to the young people is what has given me so much inspiration over the past three years I have worked with the Alliance. Through the online training that I have been doing with over 50 young people from different parts of Africa, I was able to think with them and foresee a better world in the near future if the present generation can engage in critical thinking and practical solutions on what is facing them in the society.
I would like to congratulate all those who took time to go through Track A training. I know it was not an easy process but in the end it was beneficial.
I would also like to thank members in, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Rwanda and Kenya who helped us a great deal in organizing events in their respective countries. We have experienced tremendous success. It is our hope that the coming years the growth will be immense through the members we have trained.
I also take this opportunity to thank all the interns we have had in the past for their support, for bringing more joy and new ideas to the Alliance, without them most of our projects would be incomplete. I am glad we were able to learn from each other, discover our weaknesses and above all discovered our strengts. We will relay on you in taking the organization to the next level.
We couldn’t have gone this far without guidance and advices from the Alumni and the Board. I would like to thank them for their support and for being there when we needed them. Most of all i would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the former director Ms. Winnie Beauttah for taking the organization to the next level. The region will for sure miss her.
Year 2007 was a great sucess, on behalf of World Youth Alliance Africa we are happy with what we achieved through the Seminars we held, Track A training, Internship Program, President's Tour, Director's Tour and the Accreditation of members. It is our hope that year 2008 will be filled with greater successes.
I thank you all for your support.
Best,
Esther Kanyi Kairu
FROM THE INCOMING DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
My passion for us, the young people of this world is what attracted me to World Youth Alliance. Having worked as an intern at the WYA Africa office under the able hands of my predecessors Winnie and Esther, I was able to understand more and put in to practice what I had learnt in the trainings I had received in World Youth Alliance in the past. I was able to comprehend in a better way, what the lived experience of the dignity of the human person is and how all of us have an important role to play in building the society in which we live.
Today, I join thousands and perhaps millions of young people across Africa who are committed to promoting Human Dignity and living a life commensurate with this dignity of the human person. I look forward to working with you in this noble field. Many of us have a vision for a better Africa and the world, and if we do not share this vision with those around us, if we do not put these ideas in to practice, this vision will remain just that-ideas in our minds. I am hopeful that in solidarity with other young people across the globe, we will achieve a lot.
I am grateful to all of you- young people across Africa and those young at heart who have continued to support WYA work in your local areas and for your faith in our work. It is because of you that one more person in Africa gets to know World Youth Alliance and joins as a member. I am greatly indebted to your encouraging Emails and your motivation for WYA.Visit WYA Africa blog on http://wyaafrica.blogspot.com for more encounters from our members. You can Email me your WYA story and pictures for your experience to appear on our blog.
In my short stint since joining WYAA as the Director of Operations, I have already witnessed what young people can do even with minimal resources at hand and I have a lot of faith in what we can do-in training and in cultural projects; we already had the first Viviamo! Africa event on 21st June 2008 and we hope to have more members from the region join us on this year for our second Viviamo! Event. There is a lot more in wait for us to achieve as WYAA. The beautiful people of Africa are the greatest wealth we have. YOU are important! WYA Rocks!
God bless Africa.
Yours in Solidarity,
Irene Nyambura Mwangi
