Clarification on the International Response to the Ateneo Statement and the World Youth Alliance
December 4, 2008
On December 3, 2008, the Philippine Daily Inquirer carried a full-page ad on page A19 with the heading: “International Scholars Speak...”. It contained an open letter signed by 42 theologians, philosophers and professors speaking against the Reproductive Health Bill. The source of the Response was cited as follows:
Downloaded from http://franciscotatad.blogspot.com, courtesy of individual Catholic donors, in cooperation with World Youth Alliance, Executive and International Director for Asia-Pacific, and International Right to Life Federation, Governing Board Member for Asia-Pacific.
This is to clarify that the World Youth Alliance (WYA) is not the author or involved in the drafting of the Response, nor was the Organization involved in placing the Response in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Senator Francisco Tatad is a World Youth Alliance Board Member for the Asia Pacific Region. The tagline mistakenly implies that this letter is related to the work of the WYA. The response was simply sent through networks that the Senator Tatad is linked to as a board member of the World Youth Alliance and other organizations.
